ICD-10 Memo to Physicians

Memo from Chief Medical Officer to Medical Center Providers regarding ICD-10 education.

The federal government is requiring implementation of ICD-10 coding on October 1, 2015. As a result, we have updated timelines for the ICD-10 training offered free of charge to you through Catholic Health Initiatives.  The first training, Specialty Documentation Improvement, takes less than an hour to complete.

 Training in three phases

  • Specialty Documentation Improvement Complete by March 30, 2015
  • ICD-10 Documentation April – June 2015
  • ICD-10 Awareness July – August 2015
  • You can learn more about the courses at CHIICD-10.net.

Why it’s critical you take training

  • The training will help you document more completely for ICD-9 and ICD-10, which could mean increased reimbursement before the compliance deadline and a smoother road to ICD-10.
  • A little more time spent on documentation now equals a lot less time later, which means fewer questions coming back to you, claims being held, and rework – for you and for coders.
  • If you’re not telling the complete patient story, you may not be fully credited for the time and complexity of resources you use.
  • How well you document can affect your peers, just as how well they document affects you. And you may both risk inaccurate ratings on the quality of care provided.
